Building a sim racing or flight setup

Base, rim and pedals. In a modular setup the wheel base holds the force-feedback motor, the rim (wheel add-on) clips on with a quick-release and the pedals connect to the base. Rims and pedals must be compatible with your base, and the base decides which consoles are supported.

Force feedback types. Bungee-cord wheels recentre with a spring but give no active feedback; belt or hybrid-drive bases use a motor with belts or gears for detailed feedback; direct-drive bases attach the rim straight to the motor for the strongest, most precise feel.

Platform licensing. PlayStation and Xbox wheels are licensed for their console; PC works with almost everything. Check the platform line in the compatibility section before ordering, and plan a stable desk clamp or cockpit for high-torque bases.

Setup and use

1. Make sure your base is compatible and updated to the latest firmware.
2. Align the rim with the quick-release and tighten the collar firmly.
3. Open the control panel or console settings to check buttons and paddles.
4. Choose the rotation angle and force settings for your game.

Care and maintenance

Keep the base's vents clear, update firmware with the manufacturer's software, wipe rims with a dry or slightly damp cloth (use a suede brush on Alcantara and suede), and check desk clamps and cockpit bolts before each session. Unplug the base before swapping rims unless the quick-release supports hot-swapping.
